New Year’s Eve 2011

As much as new year’s EVE is sucking (being at work and away from my girl etc.) …this year has been incredible. 2011 was a life changing year. I spent most of it on the opposite side of the world from my home. I experienced/survived the fifth worst earthquake in the recorded history of the world and then thousands (literally) of aftershocks. I’ve sincerely thought “Today might be the day I die”. I met new and amazing people. I’ve seen new and amazing things. I’ve grown as an artist and a human. I’ve found the courage to truly say “I don’t know” and be ok with that. I’ve found the courage to change what I believe about the world. I’ve been lost in Tokyo and didn’t care. I attempted to climb a volcano but was thwarted by the awesome power of our planet…twice. I’ve fallen more in love with my girl in spite of the 6,000 miles and 14 hour time difference between us.

So…that’s not bad for one year. ;-) Let’s see what happens next… Happy New Year! :-)

defranco:

The newest episode of Doctor Who, “God Complex” was fantastic.

BTW a theory for you in a non spoilery way.  7 is how old Pond was when the doctor first met her.  11 is the number of the 11th doctor.  You put it together ;)

Self-Reliance

I think one of the most important things I’ve learned and what I would hope to impart to anyone under my care is self-reliance. Most people will let you down, not come through, or turn out to be jerks. Take control. Take responsibility. Learn. Grow. Evolve.

My thoughts on the 10 year anniversary of 9/11

Posted this yesterday on Facebook. Thought’d share it here as well.

The tragedy of 9/11 was not an American tragedy. It was a human tragedy. We must change the way we see each other. We are allmore alike than different in every way. The reason we must never forget is not to remain angry and aggressive, but to learn an important lesson.

The enemies we must unite against are common, but they are not in a country in the middle east. They enemies lie within minds of all of us. Ignorance, bigotry, stupidity, hatred…these are the TRUE enemies of our civilization. Until we learn this as a community, a humancommunity, I’m afraid we will continue to live in a world where the next 9/11 could happen at any time.

So, I remember. I remember and mourn the lives of the thousands of innocent humans that died on September 11th, so that I might learn. I remember, so that I might grow. I remember, so that I might contribute in some tiny way to the evolution of humanity and not its destruction.
